Discovering the Top Chrome Extension for Web Development

Every Chrome extension brings its unique set of tools and utilities to the table, enhancing the way we interact with the internet and develop websites . Let's delve into one such extension, which holds a remarkable aggregate rating of 4.54 out of 5, and explore the features that have impressed its users.

A Look at the Top Chrome Extension

The Chrome extension in focus is the Ranorex Selocity, a tool praised by users for its efficiency in generating and evaluating selectors. It streamlines the process of Chrome extension development and has proven to be a reliable browser tool among the top Chrome extensions available.

Notable Features of the Chrome Extension

The Ranorex Selocity Chrome extension offers a range of features that make it stand out. Users can generate selectors with one click directly in the DevTools sidebar panel, an essential feature for Chrome extension development. The extension also enables instant sending of a generated selector, including a screenshot of the control to Ranorex Webtestit, a lightweight IDE optimized for building UI web tests with Selenium or Protractor. Moreover, it allows instant generation of selectors for elements within iframes, both same-origin and cross-origin, streamlining the process of Chrome extension development.

User Reviews on the Chrome Extension

Users have praised the Ranorex Selocity extension for its functionalities. One user, Steve G, expressed that it was the only tool he found that allowed him to select consistently good locators via the right-click menu – an invaluable asset to non-coders. Similarly, another user, Shala A, found the extension to be a "very helpful tool" for capturing elements.

However, there were also a few reservations. John Engelke, for instance, raised concerns about the extension's need to connect to "Ranorex Webtestit," which could send data to their server for analysis, making it less suitable for developing apps in a pre-release environment or on a private network.

Final Thoughts on the Chrome Extension

Despite the concerns, the overall positive feedback and high rating are indicative of the extension's effective functionality. It's also worth noting that the extension offers dark and light themes, catering to different user preferences. While no tool is perfect, the Ranorex Selocity extension is, according to user feedback, one of the top Chrome extensions for web development. Therefore, it is a highly recommended tool for those looking to enhance their browser tools arsenal.

Helpful tool for all QAs

Currently, this is the only available extension that reliably helps me find correct relative xpath information. However, even though the overview details list a Dark Mode feature, but no such option seems to exist within the extension. Also, the light mode appearance conflicts with Chrome's dark mode, causing the extension text to display in white with white backgrounds. This forces me to leave Chrome in light mode if I want to reliably use this extension.

Simply the best extension to test your XPATH and CSS.

The only tool I was able to find that allowed me to select consistently good locator(s) via the right click menu. As a non-coder, I thank you.

the best tool for capturing elements

Ultimately, this extension worked well to generate XPath selectors. It does not work locally, though. The extension wants to connect to "Ranorex Webtestit," an online site I am assuming from the extension developer. In fact, it reports connect/disconnect errors and with an errant button click will send your css off to their server for analysis. For this reason, in my opinion, this is not a good fit for developing apps in a pre-release environment or on a private network.

Great extension for generating and evaluating selectors.

This extension is really useful for generating XPath, CSS and Link location strategies. It is possible to send location strategies to the page objects with images of elements. Also you can validate your location strategies and ensure you do not get the Element not found exceptions.
